Job Description
Exciting opportunity in our Elgin photo studio for a creative, high-energy professional at the top of their game. Interested individuals need to thrive in a fun yet fast-paced, deadline oriented environment as well as have talent and passion to operate a studio to support online, print advertising and special projects work at Sears Holdings. Our Photography Manager will oversee and mentor a large team of photographers and videographers to assure that they are delivering photography and video of products per client instructions for a variety of media, meeting specified deadlines while maintaining quality standards. Responsible for driving Photo creative through testing as well as pursuit and evaluation of new digital technologies that can drive creative quality or productivity. Manager will assure that existing digital camera platforms, lighting equipment and overall studio space is maintained. As part of our overall studio leadership team, Photography Manager will create and maintain budgets, recruit and hire staff and source/contract freelance support. Ideal candidate will need to be proficient working in Excel and other studio specific applications – Photoshop, Capture One and camera specific applications. Workhorse experience is a plus.
Responsibilities: • Responsible for the daily management of photographers and assistant photographers, including training and talent development, assessment of skills, leadership and motivation of associates. • Responsible for effective forecasting, scheduling and booking of freelance talent to meet schedules while adhering to efficiency ratios. • Coordinates with department producers to ensure the efficient interdepartmental workflow regarding photo shoot decisions. • Responsible for the care and maintenance of $1,000,000.00 worth of company provided photography equipment. • Responsible for photographic equipment testing to ensure our equipment meets the newest technical and innovative photography trends. Makes independent recommendations on photography and lighting techniques to the staff photographers, • Evaluates prospective new hires or freelancers on talent, skill set and creative throughput. • Mentor Photographers/Assistant Photographers on use of photographic equipment and a complete inventory of components • Works independently with the Styling and scheduling manager to coordinate the appropriate photography/styling teams talent for each project. • Makes independent decisions regarding the use and type of rental photography may be required to capture a creative shot. • Works independently with the producers for estimating prop or background cost meet budget requirements for creative photography. • Responsible for $10,000 monthly photography supply and equipment budget. • Deliver quarterly and annual performance reviews on time. • Ensure all direct reports are adhering to company policies and procedures. • Follow-up with direct reports and producers to ensure jobs are on target for established hours and deadlines. • Work with employees to resolve issues. Ensure employees have the proper support and equipment necessary to successfully perform their job. • As a key member of the management team, the photo manager will be responsible from time to time to open or close the facility and assure that all security and safety processes are being adhered to. • Manages the configurement of theatrical set or directs set builders on set location. • Communicating equipment needs/failure to the Director of Creative Services. • Ensure related deadlines are met and staff members attend required meetings. Required Skills: BA/BFA in photography or equivalent • Five + years studio photography, preferably in retail catalog advertising • Five + years management experience • Digital Camera Experience on Large and medium format cameras, DSLR systems • Experienced in a variety of studio lighting equipment such as Strobe, Tungsten, HMI and natural daylight. • Experienced with Fashion and On Figure Photography Preferred Skills: • Ability to organize and problem solve independently. Must possess good interpersonal communication, time management and creative decision making skills. • Proficient in Adobe Photocopy, electronic capture software and Macintosh platform equipment as well as word processing skills. • Advanced lighting skills, with strobe, tungsten HMI and Natural Daylight. • Advanced knowledge of all photographic formats (small, medium and large). • Expert knowledge of both conventional and digital photo systems. • Experienced in a variety of studio settings ranging from editorial to retail catalog, as well as location and on figure photography. • Expert technical knowledge of camera software, image processing and color temperature/balancing. • Ability to compose and provide creative direction independently. • Ability to conceptualize and follow through on creative photography challenges. • Possess problem-solving skills in a fast paced environment. • Training Assistant Photographers in the refinement of their photography skills.
