Under general direction, performs journey-level preventative maintenance duties, and fabrication, installation, project design and major repairs of facilities, equipment and/or systems as assigned. Assists Lead Mechanic and Supervisor in providing lead direction and training to lower level employees. Major responsibilities are maintaining and repairing the industrial waste water treatment plant located at building 4955. Maintains the chemicals needed to run the plant, performs all testing associated with WWTP operation, and makes suggestions to improve WWTP operation and efficiency. Operates and maintains the WWTP by: Performing preventive maintenance on all pumps, motors, heat exchangers, steam traps, filters, and other WWTP related equipment. Performs preventive maintenance on all major pieces of equipment related to facilities as required. Performs daily testing of WWTP effluent to ensure the values are within regulatory requirements prior to discharging the effluent to the sewer. Troubleshoot s and repairs the WWTP equipment to include controls. Complies with all company policies and procedures and completes documentation required by SOP's including Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) work orders. Performs related duties as assigned. Ensures that adequate parts for the WWTP are available on an on-going basis. Complies with all company policies and procedures, including safety rules and regulations.Required Knowledge and Skills : Knowledge of : * Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and other regulatory requirements. * Facility and equipment operations and maintenance practices. * SOP for equipment operations and maintenance, including safety rules and regulations. * Electrical and pneumatic control systems, chillers and cooling towers, heating pumps, steam boilers, air compressors, and D.I./RO water systems. * Advanced journeyman level competency in all of the following trades related to Facilities Maintenance: Electrical, HVAC, Plumbing and Painting. * Troubleshooting problems with facilities and equipment. * Mechanical and electrical principles and applications. Skill in: * Complying with Company policies and procedures including safety rules and regulations. * Analyzing and troubleshooting minor problems with equipment, identifying solutions, recommending and implementing methods, procedures, and techniques for resolution. * Performing preventative maintenance on all assigned equipment and operating systems. * Performing repair techniques including cutting, drilling, gluing, caulking, fastening of plastic, wood, milled steel, stainless steel and aluminum components or assemblies. * Performing brazing, soldering, welding, MIG and TIG, and finishing skills including, but not limited to, sanding, grinding, filing, buffing, polishing or painting. * Designing and fabricating components, assemblies or machine modifications. * Reading and interpreting blueprints and schematics, and operating a personal computer. * Training and coaching other mechanics. * Reading, writing and speaking English. * Communicating clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. * Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with individuals contacted in the course of work including outside vendors, contractors or suppliers. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions : Incumbents in this class are subject to extended periods of sitting, standing, walking, pushing and pulling, stooping and crouching climbing and walking, vision to monitor, occasional lifting of equipment or materials weighing up to 75 pounds. Incumbents may be exposed to toxic materials, toxic gases, electrical hazards, and dangerous tools and equipment. Work is performed in a manufacturing environment.Minimum Qualifications: High School diploma or equivalent, supplemented by hands-on or vocational school training, and a minimum of seven (7) years of related experience in two of the following trades: Electrical, HVAC or Plumbing, preferably in a manufacturing environment; or two (2) or more years of satisfactory work experience as a Mechanic III, General Maintenance, or an equivalent combination of training and experience, and a valid Driver's License and acceptable driving history. Performs daily testing of WWTP effluent to ensure the values are within regulatory requirements prior to discharging the effluent to the sewer. Troubleshoot s and repairs the WWTP equipment to include controls.
