Job Description
Provide basic troubleshooting, operational support and monitoring for the Salt Group North American LANs and WANs Respond to 1st Level network support requests from help desk, end users or management Provide off-hours covereage/support as needed Utilize various network management tools to proactively monitor the network Assist with special projects as needed Update records, diagrams and other documents on an ongoing basis Escalate problems to vendors and/or second level network support The Network Support Specialist position involves answering calls, e-mails or tickets from our user community or Help Desk and whenever possible correct the problem that is being called in. When that is not possible, the Specialist is required to work with the appropriate vendor(s) and escalate to 2nd level support if needed. This position will also monitor the network via various network management tools and will also configure those tools as needed to acheive optimum proactive network monitoring. The position may require off-hours support from time-to-time and will support senior network engineers during rollout of complex projects. A Bachelors degree is desired with a concentration in Computer Networking, Information Technology or Computer Science. The Network Support Specialist must have at least 3 hands-on years experience. Technical Skill Requirements: - A thorough knowledge of Cisco System's IOS - Knowledge of Networking principles and technologies, including In-depth knowledge of Layers 1 – 7 of the OSI model - Excellent problem solving skills - Familiar with routers, switches, firewalls, and access-points - A thorough knowledge of DNS, DHCP and windows networking - Experience in configuration and troubleshooting Frame-Relay, MPLS, VLANs, wireless technologies and protocols - Knowledgeable about VPN and remote access technologies such as Citrix Competencies: - Will adhere and contribute to our company standards. - Provides superior customer service to end-users and peers - Consistently productive. - Organized - Has the initiative to identify and recommend IT process improvements. - Communicates well with peers and user community and has the ability to educate and inform others. - Has a general understanding of our business requirements. - Proficient in Visio and Excel - Provides attention to detail Physical Requirements: - Some lifting may be required (less than 50lbs). - Some travel may be required
